We’ve been getting an increase of FedEx (and ups) in our boxes. We’ve been bringing them back and clerks/pm have been giving them back to the offenders when they do their drop. FedEx stopped their drop Jan 6, so no more returning to them, but the local FedEx delivery gal does drop a bag randomly. Clerks started giving her the offending FedEx packages and low and behold, she’s the offender. (Happens to live in our town too)

So anyway, long story to my question. Today PM told us to leave FedEx in the boxes because USPS has a partnership with Fedex and that partnership allows them to use our mailboxes. I told her I haven’t heard of a new partnership (meaning I didn’t read it here) and don’t believe it And it won’t happen on my route. She said there is one and to leave the packages. I responded, well I’ll need to see that in writing before I do it, and it ended there. Anyone heard of this “partnership” BS?

there are fed ex labels that have usps postage on them, and there are those that don't. i will not allow fed ex or ups to deliver packages in my boxes. had someone hanging packages on boxes, with plastic bags, which seemed to tear and fall under my tires, when i opened the boxes, surprise, that stopped suddenly as well. the labels are part of the partnership, when they drop off packages, for us to deliver, not for them to use the box.

so if you leave the fed ex packages in the boxes, ask your pm, who is liable, when you have to go to the door with a package that will fit in the box, if it were not stuffed with fed ex, and you get bit, or slip and fall?

Ask yourself who will get blamed when something goes missing, like checks, credit/gift cards, medicine, cell phone etc? Me thinks it will be you. Since that is the case, we never allow fed ex/ups in the box. We bring them back and the clerksadd postage due and the pm calls ups/fed ex managers.

Recently, FED ex person left 2 small items in a box, I was in no mood that day to deal with that bs, so I brought it back to the PO. The clerk put postage due stickers on them for the customer. IMO, that is BS, its not the customers fault the FED ex person is lazy, so I just tossed them on the ground by the box.

Lets use some common sense, the ppl just moved in as well, I know its the PO but why piss off new ppl to the hood FedEx allowed in mailbox? (4) !!!

Yea, this PM is notoriously lazy when dealing with problems. I don’t plan on leaving any, and the DR will be getting a text today so I’ll at least have that in writing lol

One of those residents with the mail slot box had a fedex in it. I opened the door and it fell out. I thought to myself...oh darn, not my problem. Same person that would demand I get fired if I did that. "The point of the box is so you have to deliver it to my door 0.9 miles " Good luck finding a fedex number to call and complain to lol

Grieve the order.

PO 603. 352.4

352.4 Mailable Matter Not Bearing Postage When you find mailable matter in a box without postage paid addressed to, or intended for, the person in whose box it is deposited, take the matter to the Post Office for treatment in accordance with DMM 146.22. If general distribution of the same bill, circular, or other matter was made on the route, return two samples to your postmaster or supervisor with a statement of the number of similar pieces without postage you observed in boxes on the route.

Remember, everyone has cameras now. We do not want to be the ones getting the blame for the other guys laziness. Just bring them back for postage mark up.

I agree that it is not the customer that should pay for the wrong-doing , but the other company, UPS/Fed-x. After many occurrences over the years and spending the time to talk get and talk to the dispatch plant of both other companies, we started returning those parcels to the sender. They have no USPS postage , and really should not be postage due, but since we would have to pay for the trip back several states away, we charge the sender postage due. This seems to stop the "errors of their ways". After the UPS plant manager tried "arguing ' with me about it, I sent a postal inspector to their plants to refresh all their carriers on the LAW about federal crimes and people other than USPS employees and their patrons TOUCHING the mail boxes.

Yup.AND UPS
This is how we're getting screwed..they now have usps barcodes(surepost) on FedEx and UPS...but our lovely company decided its cheaper to have them deliver than us...to get the credit, I scan them anyway...I have to move them out of the way to get to the customers mail so too bad..better yet...ill take it to the door and get the extra credit...if I have to touch it, I get the credit for it...there's an old grievance about that somewhere...
Imo, the harder they try to screw us, the more they screw themselves...just be fair and pay us for what we do.?

There is an official memo from last spring (maybe, sometime in 2019 anyway) on the bulletin board of my PO with instructions on what to do about those UPS/FedEx/other carriers packages in mailboxes.

Basically, bring package(s) back to PO. Someone there contacts the offending company and tells them to come get it.

That said, my PM's instructions were to bring them back and the customer will be charged postage due. So much for consistent policy. Or enforcing existing policy. or whatever.

Since my office has a UPS store where every delivery units service. We pull offending item(s) and bring them back to the office. From there they go into the pumpkin of the carrier who serves the UPS store which happens to be a Rural Carrier. They get the credits and the UPS store gets the added volume of non paying items. The UPS store then distributes as outgoing to the offending company when they do their drop offs for them to reprocess and redeliver.

No cameras in this situation. I obviously disagree with putting postage on the packages, these ppl should not have to pay because of lazy Fed ex guy.

We shouldn't pay either. That loss of revenue basically comes out of our pockets.

The last directive given Nationwide was to bring the offending parcel back to the office. Mgmt is to notify the shipper that left it in the wrong place & give them 48 hours to retrieve the item. We are not to “Postage Due” these items.
